Bio

Dr. Cartmell is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Pain Management, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A graduate of Yale University and the Indiana University School of Medicine, he completed his internship, residency, and fellowship at Vanderbilt University. Over the past few decades, Dr. Cartmell has served as lead investigator or sub-investigator in over 100 cancer related clinical research studies. In high demand as a speaker and guest lecturer, he has also published numerous papers and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA.

In addition to his essential role at CBCC, Dr. Cartmell is an attending physician at every major hospital in Bakersfield, and has acted as Chairman of the Cancer Committee at San Joaquin, Mercy, and Memorial Hospitals. Dr. Cartmell has received and been nominated for dozens of prestigious honors and awards, including recognition by the American Medical Association [AMA]; he has been named among America’s Top Physicians, and has been nominated for the International Peace Prize three times. He has also been nominated as International Professional of the Year, Man of the Year, and was named as the Top Oncologist in Bakersfield, 2011.
